Storm Mountain Ranch is a private, shared-ownership ranch community founded on a single organizing principle: that 1,100 acres of Yampa Valley ranchland would be divided among no more than 14 families, protected in perpetuity, and managed as a working ranch for generations. In 1997, before a single home was built, 793 acres were placed under permanent conservation easement through a donation to the Yampa Valley Land Trust. Construction on the first homesite began in 2000. 

The community's main lodge, Awapa, takes its name from the Ute word for "the land of many waters," an accurate description of a property where creeks, ponds, and cascading water define the landscape in every direction. Today, the ranch operates exactly as it was conceived: a working equestrian community with active forestry and wildlife programs, where every amenity is reserved solely for owners and their guests.

All amenities at Storm Mountain Ranch are reserved exclusively for the 14 owner families and their guests. There is no public access, no booking platform, and no outside availability.
