Steamboat’s winter flight schedule is growing again. This season, Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) will offer nonstop service to 18 major U.S. airports across six major airlines: Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United, up from 17 last winter. The addition is a new Alaska Airlines route connecting Portland, Oregon and expanded flights from Austin on Southwest Airlines and larger mainline jet service to and from Houston on United Airlines.
The flight map already reaches nearly every corner of the country, with cities including: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Forth Worth, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New York/Newark, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma, and Washington-Dulles. Nonstop service kicks off on December 10th and runs through April 2027, with varying schedules among the cities listed here.
This year's schedule expansion lands alongside a much larger story: HDN's approximately $84 million terminal expansion, which broke ground this year and will add roughly 60,000 square feet across two levels, effectively doubling the size of the existing terminal. New gates with boarding bridges, upgraded baggage handling, and expanded passenger circulation are all designed to keep pace with demand that has already outgrown the current building. With completion expected in 2028, the expansion will further improve access to Northwest Colorado for years to come.
"Air service is one of the foundational drivers for resort and luxury markets," says Chris Paoli, Managing Partner at The Agency Steamboat Springs. "Accessibility is an economic driver. A larger, more capable airport attracts inbound buyers, supports visitation patterns, serves residents and second-home owners who rely on consistent air access, and strengthens year-round engagement with the community."
The timing lines up with a development cycle Steamboat hasn't seen in more than a decade. Nearly $1 billion in new condominium projects are underway at the resort base, led by The Stockman Auberge Collection. New base-area developments are expected to launch at pricing well above anything Steamboat has previously seen.
For buyers evaluating Steamboat against other mountain markets, flight access is a practical piece of the equation. Eighteen nonstop airports mean more flexibility for owners who split time between homes, more convenience for guests if a property allows short-term rentals, and fewer connections standing between a second home and the people who use it.
For sellers, particularly those marketing properties in the Green Zone or in new developments positioned for rental income, an expanding flight map is a straightforward point in a listing's favor. Buyers researching accessibility alongside amenities and views will find a market actively investing in getting people here.
