Tee Time in Steamboat: Great Courses, Private Fairways & Golf Estates Available Now

Real Estate Nicole Montgomery May 11, 2026

The version of Steamboat Springs that travelers likely know best features snowy slopes covered in the famously light champagne powder that earned this Colorado mountain town its "Ski Town USA" identity. But as travelers, who often become homeowners, have said for years, they came first for the winter, but stayed for the summer. More and more people each year, especially those escaping the heat of the southern states, are discovering the Steamboat, where the surrounding mountains and the rolling fairways below turn a vibrant shade of green.

From late May through October, Steamboat becomes one of the Mountain West's most compelling golf destinations: three distinct championship courses, wide-open valley views, cool summer temperatures, and endless recreation off the course, from fly fishing to mountain biking.

Steamboat Springs as a Golf Destination: What You Need to Know

What courses are in Steamboat Springs, Colorado?

Steamboat has three 18-hole championship courses, each with a distinct character and access model.

Haymaker Golf Course is the community's flagship public course, city-owned and consistently ranked among Colorado's best. Designed by Keith Foster and opened in 1997, Haymaker stretches to 7,308 yards from the tips, par 72 with a slope of 133 and a course rating of 73.4. It was rated the "#5 Golf Course You Can Play in Colorado" by Golfweek Magazine in 2023 and named "#1 Mountain Golf Course" by Colorado Avid Golfer the same year. The course is Audubon International certified, the first in Colorado to earn that distinction, which means the 233-acre layout integrates native grasses and wetland areas throughout. There is no residential development on the property, and 360-degree views of the Yampa Valley and Mount Werner are uninterrupted on every hole.

Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club, part of the Sheraton Steamboat Resort and managed by Troon, is open to resort guests and the public. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and opened in 1974, making it Steamboat's most established layout. Fish Creek winds through seven holes, 66 bunkers protect the large, undulating bentgrass greens, and the elevation changes along the flanks of Mount Werner produce some of the most demanding tee shots in the state. Golf Digest has recognized Rollingstone with four-star ratings and a "Best Places to Play in Colorado" designation; Colorado Avid Golfer has named it "Best Mountain Resort Course." From the back tees, it plays to approximately 6,900 yards, par 72, with a slope of 141.

Catamount Ranch & Club is Steamboat's only fully private golf and lake club, and it is a different experience entirely.

Catamount Ranch & Club: Steamboat's Only Private Course

Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the Catamount course plays 7,088 yards from the tips, par 72 with a slope rating of 132 and a course rating of 72.3. Golf Digest has ranked it among Colorado's Top 10 golf courses.

The club sits on 3,200 rolling acres and combines the golf course with Lake Catamount, a private 532-acre lake. Membership access includes the Tom Weiskopf championship course, the clubhouse, the lake for sailing and watersports, fly fishing, a fitness center, tennis courts, and a full-service restaurant at the Lake House. In winter, the walking paths and equestrian trails convert to Nordic skiing and snowshoeing terrain.

Two Golf Estates. Two Entirely Different Design Visions.

Within Catamount Ranch & Club, The Agency Steamboat is currently representing two architecturally distinct luxury estates: one actively on the market, one available exclusively off-market. Conceived by different architects and drawing from entirely different design traditions, they represent two visions of what a great mountain home and golf estate can be.

One is hand-built and European in character, steeped in stone and timber craftsmanship that cannot be replicated. The other is mountain modern: clean, considered, and tailored to a buyer with an entirely different aesthetic sensibility. Both sit above the same private fairways, in the same valley, and minutes from the slopes. That two homes this architecturally distinct exist within a single private golf club community is, by any measure, uncommon.

The Covered Bridge Estate | 33800 Catamount Drive | $9,950,000

The Covered Bridge Estate sits on seven private acres overlooking the 7th fairway at Catamount Ranch & Club, with sweeping south-facing views across the Yampa Valley and surrounding mountain peaks. It was designed by architect Joe Patrick Robbins and constructed over three years.

The home is 11,492 square feet, with six bedrooms, 13 baths, and five fireplaces. It takes its name from the covered-bridge entry, a distinctive architectural moment that signals the home's European lodge character before you step inside. The construction involved 400 tons of natural stone, hand-carved wood beams, and oak, pecan, and pine flooring throughout.

The great room rises to 30-foot vaulted ceilings above a full-height stone fireplace wall that extends seamlessly to the exterior terrace, where a wood-burning fireplace mirrors the interior hearth. The terrace frames views across the fairway to wooded hillsides beyond.

The estate is organized for main-level living: the primary suite with partner baths and individual dressing rooms, the office and library, kitchen, dining, and living areas all sit on the first floor. A stone-arched hallway, reminiscent of a European passage, leads to the primary suite. A second, equally private primary suite exists for multi-generational living or long-term guests.

The newly remodeled chef's kitchen includes a dedicated prep area, Viking range with dual ovens, dual dishwashers, built-in Miele coffee system, granite countertops, an expansive center island, walk-in pantry, and a breakfast nook positioned to capture panoramic valley views. The kitchen opens to an outdoor grilling deck.

The ground-floor entertaining level includes a 10-seat home theater, an exquisite wine cellar with brick walls, custom cabinetry, and a copper-plated door, a game and living room with a stone fireplace and wet bar, a fitness studio, and a spa with steam shower, Finlandia sauna, cold plunge, and dual baths. A private owner's staircase connects the wellness area directly to the main-level primary suite.

Outdoors, cascading water features, landscaped gardens, multiple terraces, a snowmelt driveway, and a four-car garage complete the property. An elevator connects all three levels.

The property is offered fully furnished, with seller financing available. Bitcoin accepted. Read our full editorial on the property here. Explore the listing here.

Acanthus Estate | 33560 Catamount Drive | $12,990,000 | Off-Market

The Acanthus Estate offers a different architectural proposition entirely. Where the Covered Bridge Estate draws from European lodge traditions and hand-built craftsmanship, Acanthus is mountain modern with clean lines, an intricate timber-truss ceiling, and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace anchored by two-story windows that frame the landscape on all sides.

The residence was designed by architect Bill Rangitsch with interiors by Mary Litterman and encompasses 10,746 square feet across 9.07 acres above the 10th fairway at Catamount Ranch & Club. Seven bedrooms, 10 baths, and 2,925 square feet of outdoor living space across multiple decks, patios, and a firepit. Views reach across the South Valley to the Steamboat Ski Area, Flat Top Mountains, and Walton Creek Canyon.

Designer furnishings by B. Pila of Miami are included in the sale. The kitchen is equipped with double Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezers, a Wolf 6-burner range, two dishwashers, a warming drawer, and a steamer. The main-level primary suite includes a double-sided fireplace, sitting area, and private deck. A dedicated home office in the primary wing connects directly to the deck.

A self-contained 1,500-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath apartment on the upper level provides complete independence for guests or extended family. The lower level is designed for entertaining: a family room, media room, wine and tasting room, and sunken hot tub with access to covered decks. The four-car garage includes room for trailers and gear storage.

The Acanthus Estate is offered off market with inquiries are handled exclusively through Chris Paoli and Noah Zedeck of The Agency Steamboat Springs.

Why Catamount? Why Now?

Is Catamount Ranch & Club a good investment location?

Steamboat Springs is in a period of significant capital activity. Over $1 billion in base area development is set to break ground in 2026, and the market has continued to attract buyers from Texas, Florida, California, and beyond who are looking for year-round livability, not just ski season access. Steamboat's regional airport ranks second only to Jackson Hole for commercial air service in the Mountain West, making access from Houston, Dallas, and South Florida meaningfully easier than most comparable mountain destinations.

Catamount specifically offers something increasingly rare: private golf within a community where the residential inventory is genuinely limited. Covered Bridge Estate and Acanthus Estate represent singular offerings within this setting, with year-round recreation at their doorstep.

What is the best time to visit Steamboat Springs for golf?

Golf season in Steamboat generally runs from late May through mid-October, with peak playing conditions from June through September. Summer temperatures are mild, warm in the afternoons, cool in the evenings, making the valley's green season one of the most pleasant in the Rockies.

“I’ve traveled to numerous renowned golf destinations, and one variable is always the weather conditions.  Consistently, I’m reminded of why I love golfing in Steamboat. Our golf season offers the perfect blend of cool mornings, warm days, and incredible evenings. Later afternoon views from the Catamount golf course rival any destination golf I’ve ever played,” said Chris Paoli, Managing Partner of The Agency Steamboat Springs and co-listing agent on Acanthus Estate.

“Steamboat is often thought of exclusively as a winter destination because of our world-class ski resort. But in the summer, picturesque mountain views, roaring rivers, calm lakes, and average temperatures in the mid-70s complement our well-known winter season, making Steamboat a compelling destination year-round,” said The Agency Steamboat’s Noah Zedeck, who represents Covered Bridge Estate and Acanthus Estate. “Both of these homes offer unique opportunities to enjoy all that Steamboat has to offer in maximum comfort and style. Ten minutes from world-class skiing, 10 seconds from championship golf. It doesn’t get better than that."
