Chef Collin Kelley, owner of restaurants Primrose and Cypress and one of Steamboat Springs’ most respected culinary voices, has unveiled plans for a new chef-driven market and dining concept coming to Steamboat Basecamp on the mountain town’s West Side. Designed as a daily-use food destination, the market will expand Basecamp’s growing retail mix while offering residents of the community and the greater Steamboat area fresh, thoughtfully prepared food, on-site dining, and an inviting neighborhood gathering place.
The project is being developed in partnership with MR Homes and was recently introduced to the local real estate community by The Agency Steamboat Springs at a broker preview event.
The market is envisioned as a modern, European-inspired market hall, spanning approximately 4,500 square feet across one-and-a-half stories. The space will include indoor and outdoor dining, a mezzanine level, and seating for approximately 50 guests. A patio will extend the experience outdoors for coffee, cocktails, and casual meals throughout the day.
“The market is a natural extension of how we already cook and eat in Steamboat,” said Chef Collin Kelley, chef and owner of Primrose and Cypress restaurants. “It’s about well-sourced ingredients, food made by hand, and giving people a place they can rely on several times a week, whether that’s sitting down for a meal or picking up something thoughtful to cook at home.”
The market will focus on fresh, healthy food crafted on site, with chef-driven recipes emphasizing hand-cut steaks, fresh pasta, and house-made breads. Offerings are designed for both on-site dining and takeaway, with ready-to-cook meals intended for two to three days of elevated home dining. Mediterranean and European influences will shape the menu and marketplace, with a strict focus on fresh preparation.
Plans also include the potential for a commissary kitchen to support expanded culinary programming, as well as cooking classes during Steamboat’s shoulder seasons featuring ingredients and techniques available within the market.
“The market and dining concept fills a long-standing gap on the West Side,” said Kevin Riegler of MR Homes, the locally based developer behind Steamboat Basecamp. “This is a carefully considered addition that brings quality food, daily convenience, and a strong sense of place to both the Basecamp community and the greater West Steamboat neighborhood.”
The market will anchor the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Elk River Road, serving as a central gathering point for West Steamboat. Its location within Basecamp, a mixed-use residential community, places it alongside neighborhood businesses including Big Iron Coffee, Steamboat Fit, M3 Golf Lab, and Orange Peel Bikes.
As an on-site amenity, the market further enhances Basecamp Row, a limited collection of newly completed, design-forward townhomes located steps away. With five residences remaining, Basecamp Row offers expansive floor plans, rooftop terraces, and private garages paired with immediate access to food, fitness, and daily essentials, priced from $1.32M.
Construction on the market is expected to begin in June 2026, with completion anticipated in December and an opening planned for March. For information about Basecamp or Basecamp Row, contact [email protected].
